Yep, it'll soon be making smoke and noise, and what a distinctive noise it is.
By the sounds of it you're almost finished.
How about a quick vid of the first startup.
We love that kind of stuff on here.

Woo hoo. All working. Apologies for the long wait. Other projects intervened. Problem was that the woodruff key had fallen from its slot on reassembly and the timing was proper out. After an age of tweaking the timing to no avail I finally had a look and the key was just sitting there. As soon as it was all assembled correctly I was rewarded with that beautiful noise.

Well done Steve for keeping at it!
Many would have thrown the towel in long ago, but you have shown so well, our little Seagulls are repairable, with patience and a little research, through these pages and the SOS website..
To ensure those scratches on the piston do not get worse make sure you use 2T for outboards,not the stuff for mowers, strimmers or the like, maybe even the Bio 2T I sell and use here.

Yeah Buddy.
As per John, use a good quality 2stroke oil specifically for outboard motors (plenty to choose from out there) but make sure it's at least TCW2 or 3.
Sounds good in the video.
psst. i would have given the piston a very light going over with some steel wool to get rid of most of the scuffs marks.
All good though, well done for sticking with it

I had the same problem with the woodruff key coming out. The cooling system was blocked, took head and block off and cleaned it all. Reassembled and tried to start it. Two pulls on cord resulted in two massive backfires. Checked timing with screwdriver in plug hole and it was massively out. Took flywheel off and found key and reassembled. Started first pull but crankcase now bubbling I reckon backfires may have beem responsible. Took it apart yet again and reassembled with RTV in crankcase joint. Worked perfectly ever since and definitely runs cooler with waterways cleared out. Will always be careful of woodruff key in future!! Robert
