Block won't come off the drive tube...

Post by PeterW »

I'm obviously doing something wrong here...!!

Forty minus, and I've read the manual (thanks John!)

Both nuts off the bottom of the block to tube flange, exhaust tube is free to move (it rotates in place !) but whatever I do I can't get the block and drive tube to separate more than about 1/8th of an inch !

I don't want to lever it off, but everything seems to be free yet the 2 won't part company !

So what have I missed...??? Help !!!

Cheers

Had this recently on a motor that didn't appear to have much exterior corrosion. Water tube was steel and there was white ali oxide [seen after removal] holding it in place where it fits into the pump case. Separated the pump case from the gearbox, used a piece of 5/16" dia. threaded rod as a drift to hammer on bottom of water tube while pulling on pump case. Would advise against beating pump case off from above, the center of it isn't that strong.

All done !

Lever between the block and the flange and its come free

Tidied everything up and now need to clean the exhaust tube up and polish it as its brass.

Then to put it all back together again when its painted !!

Shopping list on its way John..
