Seagull forty crankshaft case leak

Now that I have my 1974 Forty running I see a cranckshaft case join leak.

This does not seem to affect the running of the motor, it is a low pressure side anyway.

I ask should I worry? as stopping such a leak is a big strip down and really not what I want to do.

Did it leak before I swopped the original nuts and bolts over?

The answer is that I do not know, I will check the pictures pre yesterday and see if I can see anything?

I had a look and the pictures were all taken from the other side of the engine, plus only when the motor was running for the first time in recent years, so there are no shots of the side with the leak showing.

The nuts and bolts were removed one at a time from a cold enging and before I ran the motor that day. wanting to retighten the nuts I allowed the motor to cool right down to cold, then tightened the bolts up a tad more, it has made no difference.


I ran the motor the following day, same result and same leaking, the motor has now been drained of fuel and put away pending my next use for it?

There is no MOT out here on outboards as far as I know, so I should be safe from the law?

I would not be able to sleep knowing its there, and not fixing it, but that's just me aye!

Some Loctite 515 (or similar) on the mating surfaces before reassembly is suggested.

Good question . The external surfaces certainly look to have been blasted.

Like AusAnzani said if you are planning to use it I would have to sort it out, does not look like its been bead blasted changing the bolts may have broken the seal.
