102 AC 14685 swap?

102 AC 14685 swap?
I have a 102 motor that is quite old, and too old to be properly appreciated by such a heathen as I, so it seems appropriate to pass it on to someone who would like it. The SOS id section puts it at '50-'51. The rest of the 102 it came attached to isn't the same vintage (at least I don't think so, the gearbox has one grease nipple). The motor seems in great condition (nice bore, piston appears to show little wear, crank nice and shiny with no evident play, rings good, water jacket clean etc).
It would be nice to swap it for another 102 motor with the engine code WHC.

Well maybe, I'm not the expert on the subject. But we know someone who is...It has a non-bronze gear selector which seems a bit of a giveaway. Oh jeez here we go. This is a post regarding maybe swapping something...oh no it isn't...

I'm not the expert here, Charles is. Everyone knows this...
I'm just a nobody that has a shed-full (and now an attic full) of 102's from most ages. I know absolutely nothing when it comes to 102's.
HOWEVER
1 nippled gearboxes with a serial number similar to yours would sound about right. (i have 2 of them in the same date range)
Any pics?
Would you consider a swap for a WSPC of 1978 vintage. Basically the same as a WHC 102 bargepusher to all intents and purposes.
WHC's seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment. I've never seen one, have you?

Wrong again, Jon, I sort of lost interest in the classics a long time ago, apart from modding Century's for racing, my specialist area is very early & very late, I only step in elsewhere to ensure accuracy, you know the Headmaster role!

For the record, the general aim is to have a usable 102 that gets used without worrying too much about negative things occurring. The WHC motor can run on 25:1 which makes it desirable to me. Late model though, so I have guessed it is less common and I figured if anyone has one it'll be on this forum. Sorry I dont want a bargepusher. But I have a unwanted Silver Century 4:1 gearbox, prop, and waterpump housing in great shape if you like.
Surely this is a bitsa. Mk2 ignition, chromed exhaust, non-bronze gear fork. The bracket it came with is awesome - home-made in heavy-guage stainless, will accept any Seagull, wider c-clamp jaws to fit over a thicker transom, but a bit ugly to be sure.
The gearbox is with someone who has promised to move the bolts that won't move, so even if I had a camera, I can't send pics right now. As far 102 gearboxes go I have formed the impression, based on previous threads, that the more nipples the better / older! Do gearboxes of this vintage have serial numbers anywhere?

Older nippled gearboxes tend to have done more work than later oil filled ones, & didn't have the benefit of the better, free flowing lubrication.
Their popularity is due to owners of older motors wanting them to be & look original.
But if your planning on making it work for it's living it might be less stressful to use a later one with an oil filler cap.

For an "every day" outboard i can understand you wanting something that is relatively modern. I can think of a few that are much better than a clunky old 102 though.

If you are after a modern 102 for regular use then i strongly recommend you look for a ED.
They really are great motors and one of the best in my opinion!
I have one and so does Hugo.

I think John Williams has brass oil filler caps, have you tried him?
