Oyster I think you are right, if you look at it more as a storm cowl, rather then a choke cover, which I suspect it was signed for in the first place, the choke was added later and the Patents continued.

I did wonder why it had the cut out, maybe you could choke it by hand but not totally flood it, but then why have a choke.

Yet another variation.

Lodgey I doubt it's the same cowl as I posted. That knurled bit at the top is the choke control!

Charles does the F cowl have an internal butterfly that turns 90 degrees?

It's not that simple, You screw the wheel up or down for choke on or off.

Not exactly ergonomically friendly

I agree, when l last ran F201 on the back of my inflatable last December, it was a right fiddle. It is 8 turns with the knob on top from fully open to fully closed. That and with a bit of starting problem, I soon got confused whether the choke was on or off!
Not the best arrangement!

But basically the same casting as a 102 inlet cowl wouldn't you say Jeremy.

Jeremy what's the throat diameter of your F carb & the diameter of the threaded hole in the back of the cowl?

Charles,
The dia of the inlet bore of the Amal carb off F1207 is 0.325. Note that F1207 is a 55cc engine.
The minor dia of the threaded hole in the back of the cowl is 0.775.

Hope this helps.
Jeremy

Jon,
Sorry, forgot to answer your question. Yes, it does appear to be the same as some 102 cowls that l have seen. I seem to remember that you showed me one which looked identical, but l don't remember which exact which model it came off. You are an expert on 102s - l virtually know nothing about them.
Keep up the good work Jon. The Seagull fraternity needs everybody's contribution.
Polite dialogue, with the ability to disagree is the key to hearing everybody's views and encouraging as many people as possible to contribute and join in with this hobby of ours.
Thanks for your help with my little FVs.

Nice to know i still have some friends left on here, but i wouldn't call myself an expert. Never have, i just take an interest in 1 particular line of the seagull family tree (102's old and not so old) and see where it takes me.

You're welcome Jeremy , any time.
