170 on fleebay

Post by flyguy »

I guess you will all have seen this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/british-seagu ... SwIWVY~jun

I read about the Con Rod Big End problem and how difficult getting a replacement would be
but now that I've been outbid what would you expect this to go for?
BTW I'm not bidding on it again

Yep, i've been watching this one too. A bit too far north for me.
As for what it will sell for depends on what the bidder/s thinks it's worth in its current state.
As it's missing the recoil unit (there's a few of these around at the moment) this will have an impact on the end price.
As long as it runs well enough with no unusual noises it could be a good 'un, but then again it could also be a nightmare. You never know...

I'm gonna guess at £70 plus when it's finished.

This is quite an early 170 by the colour, not only the unavailability of the con rod is a major problem, the inner exhausts are no longer available & they rot really badly, the main bearings are very prone to wear & they're no longer available from Seagull, though I do have some new ones but they will need reaming in situ.

Not really the ideal Seagull for anyone with limited mechanical ability & no access to an engineering workshop!
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
