LS Propeller

Post by Adrian Dale »

I need a three blade "clover leaf" propeller for my recently acquired LS 18407. I know they are rare but........ maybe in the back of someone's shed some where in the world

I think you will find its a four blade prop for the LS.

is it? I wondered about that. Going of the sectional drawing on the main site its hard to discern. I have a couple of photos of an FV that defiantly looks like a 3 blade I thought both the FV and LS were the same.. either way both may be difficult to source.

hi adrian

FV is the smaller of the 2 motors so has a small prop. FVP (same box as LS and slightly later SJP) has the larger prop.

LS definitely has the 4 bladed clover leaf prop, but you can use a later style prop (square edged type) until you manage to get the correct one.

Bruny Island Tasmania all the way south on the channel side. Great place for messing about in boats

Appreciate the photo, on reinspection of the sectional drawing I can see that two full diametrically opposed blades are shown therefore of course the other two are hidden, had it been three blade only one blade would be shown....

once I get the gearbox and drive shaft fitted ill try it out with a square four blade.. nice to get a round blade so still looking abet now for a four blade prop!!

40+ and LS are interchangeable.

the more modern square edged prop commonly known as "hydrofoil" is a direct fit on any 40 plus so this will also fit onto older motors as well.
they are quite an efficient prop really. lots more than the clover leaf type (round edged blades)
depends on how authentic you want your motor to be.
as per earlier post on LS parts, they are getting pretty scarce nowadays.
blocks, heads and cylinders especially.
if you've got an LS already, treat it with kid gloves. give them some love gents.
better still, use an SJP or later model 40 instead.
these are becoming more and more scarce these LS's. so probably best to look at these as static display models now, than to use one in anger.

Hi Chris I guess it should look like the photo of the one in the box sent in by 'hugz' a couple of posts back. That is a complete LS
