That is an original Daily Mirror photograph from 1928 that I have, Miss Spicer racing on the Thames, Westminster Bridge to Kew Bridge.

Great photo!

So, experts, what is the engine?

Very cool!

The Watermota Outboard Engine was made in the UK I believe. Have seem earlier examples (more like the early Evinrude Rowboat Motors), but nothing quite like this.

Here's another of the same type: http://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/ ... hydroplane

And some more general Watermota details: http://www.cailleoutboards.com/rowboat/ ... index.html
