Forty spanner sizes ?

Post by african imp »

Having just rebuilt my 1974 British Seagull forty series, I want to remove the original crank case nuts and bolts and replace with re chromed ones I have.

Finding a spanner, say imperial or metric will not work but a pair of Austin spanners may do the job, the ends that fit are marked 3/16" they are a little loose but I think they will work?

What sizes are the nuts please?

Thanks, I have a set of Whitworth sockets here, the 3/16" size fits well, the 7/16" one fits also.

This looks like a better idea than the Austin open ended spanners, will those bolts come out is the question?

They are a loose fit in the spare alloy crank case that I have here.

With the 3/16" socket on the nut and the 3/16" Austin spanner on the hex head bolt, the nuts came off ok and the bolts slid out very easily.

I removed one bolt and nut at a time.

I have a feeling that this motor has low hours and had an easy life?
