Rusty Chrome Drive Tube
Hey Guys
The drive tube (???) on my 40 Plus Seagull is rusty azz ...
Are these easy to replace ??
Whats the best course of action ? .. remove and replace, remove and re-chrome or maybe mask it off, clean it up and spray it ??

Yes very easy. Are these easy to replace ??
Take the gear box off the bottom and take the power head off the top.
I can talk you through it over the phone if needed (it is a lot easier than typing) Have a look at it then come back to us, it is good to keep things out in the open on the forum than doing things by PM but if needed I can help.

Awesome .... sounds easy
Mine does not appear to have a cinch bolt at the bottom end so it might just fall off ?? ... i read somewhere that the gearbox was braised onto the tube ? ... or is that the exhaust side ?

Re: Rusty Chrome Drive Tube
No factory braising off gearboxes to tubes. Yes your gear box could fall off. Some early ones had drive tube threaded onto box but not yours.

Post a pic, side elevation, of the water pump housing, lower unit & the bottom 50mm of the drive shaft tube.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Re: Rusty Chrome Drive Tube
I suggest you talk to John C at Sandspit Waiuku or Nudge just over the bridge in Auckland, they both know what they're talking about.
