There are several old threads regarding 170's, have a good read before you start playing.

But please check the main bearings, big end, ignition, fuel pump diaphragm, & the lower unit before you venture forth.

Thanks Charles , I've not had it running but understand they're a bit tender ! This one is 1982 according to engine number . I believe because of their issues there aren't many left so was happy to get one

I’ve got ENS245GG2 which looks to be same model/year. Very similar visual condition to yours, turns over freely with good compression. It’s on my list of projects but seems it’s always near the bottom of the list. So I’ve never started mine but doubt that will be an issue. Hope to get it started by spring.

PS also have that rather unsightly orange on the prop complete with dents and scratches. Was this their attempt at a safety warning?

Thanks for your reply , is the gearcase of yours also painted ? I was having a look on google images and they seem to have come in various colours . I have a fair few 'winter projects' waiting here too !

I had a 170 and a spare transom bracket and gearbox, all of which were painted blue per the first of the pictures, which I believe to be 'Oxford' blue.

I have recollections of an orange prop on one of my FNR gearboxes, which I assumed was just someones' handiwork. Going further back, I remember coming across Forty Plus or Century props painted bright red, and even one in an aircraft prop fashion - all badly done - silver paint with red tips on each blade!

Thanks for that ,I assumed it had just been randomly painted but looking at google images it seems they had various colours . I'm thinking to go for original silver when I get around to it

I've probably had 10 of these (170/125) I've only seen Royal blue & silver painted aluminium parts, with Royal blue & black engine covers.
