Just collected a Little Forty 52
Having viewed a several videos showing points access I was surprised to find that the flywheel has no apertures and therefore has to be removed.
Is this normal and what system should I expect to find?

We can't answer your question without knowing the serial number!

Sorry Serial No. FVP6842T
The flywheel with nut and plate removed is a solid surface with no apertures giving view of interior.

Both of the Wipac electronic CDI ignitions had no no apertures.

But your little forty was built way before the advent of the CDI, so it must have been a repair after British Seagull ran out of Villiers spares.

Apologies to you very kind experts, the flywheel plate was so perfectly fitted that it appeared as one solid piece!
I have now realised my error, removed it to find the normal apertures and an immaculate points assembly inside.
What a beauty!
Sorry !!

FVP6842T is a 'new' one to me.
Its not one of yours is it Tam? Surely its not heading north to you?

Baiter,
I keep a register with derived details of the original spec. I would be grateful for a photograph of it. It is interesting to have a 'T' suffix, as its near relative, FVP6798T, was also so identified.

If you send a private message with yr e mail, I will send you a copy of the register list and some technical details.

Its good to hear of another one surfacing.

Recovering a spark with my new tool, a spark plug wrench with cut off handle to rotate the flywheel.
I had no spark at the points but in less than 2 mins of rotating with drill it was revived.
Still no spark at the plug but hopefully soon
The flywheel is stamped 7 / 51 - That's July 1951

I am not convinced about this method of rotating the engine to recover a spark, but if you do that, please ensure that the piston/cylinder is lubricated.
Good luck.

Replace the HT lead and I bet you will have a spark!
