Still researching pre-war nails, would hate to use the wrong type.

I am working in a thirties house at the moment, could extract an original 1930's nail and use that to make sure I am maintaining total originality.

Are you going to strip the gearbox on this one? Perhaps a good subject to advise the pitfalls and how delicate those gearboxes can be Your knowledge and experience shines through here H-A

Yes gearbox will need stripping, bit of play in the bearings.

Have been looking at the other bits that I need to do

Have tried to remove the impeller, but it wont budge.

Will take pictures of the process.

Have taken the impeller off bit bashed by previous maintenance.
Impeller has a right hand thread, gearbox cap has a left hand thread, this cap is an un-threaded replacement.

Threads in box look quite good.

Cleaned up impeller with a dremmel.

Will make a special tool to remove bronze bearing.

I would cast it myself if I needed one, plaster mould, or sand cast.

Could print a pattern on the 3d printer.

I’m envious now! I’d love to do something like that, but at present I’m too young!! working 50+hrs a week don’t leave much time for playing. 40yrs time maybe when I’m retired but I’ll probably be too frail to do anything.

Popped down the shed for an hour, to make the gearbox bearing removal tool.

Just need to fit 2 hardened pins and that should do the trick.

I think Adrian Dale made a similar one when he stripped his gearbox.

Well that broke I did drill 4 holes for pegs just in case

I gave it loads of heat, and got a 3 foot breaker bar on it.
Started to move.

Was quite exciting when the vaporised grease/water in the box, squirted out under great pressure and ignited
Big ball of flame.

Will try more heat, don't want to melt it.
