New member and down a nut

Hi there Seagullers,
I'm a new member (Australia) and have owned several boats (mainly sailing skiffs) but never a Seagull...till now.

I have just bought a rather nice March 1973 WD Serries 102 (direct drive -no clutch) from an old friend.
I live in Yass NSW Australia (sheep country 40 mins drive from Canberra) which means mainly fresh water lakes.
I really appreciate the wealth of information on this site and the time spent running it.

Now my engine has the normal Amal two jet carby, but here's the thing:
The diagram I found for it (unlike the one for the Amal 416 ) does not show a throttle cable adjusting lock nut.
My engine doesn't have one either yet I feel it should have.
My best guess is that the thread is 7/32" BSF. but I can't find such a nut anywhere, especially a half nut and of course brass by preference.
I have added a tiny electrical tie where I feel the nut should be and it seems to serve the purpose but of course it's not original (if indeed anything is!)
I would (and will) send pics when I learn how to, but for now any information on this would be most welcome.
It's not earth shattering of course but I think interesting.
If someone can direct me to such a nut you would make an old/elderly Aussie very happy.

Thanks for the reply Hugz,
There is provision for cable adjustment on the Amal 416 which has a locknut as originally stated.
The similar setup for the standard twin jet Amal on the 102 would suggest that it is also adjustable and if so would have a locknut too.
The Amal diagrams are on the website if you want to double check.

I note that on John's spares page the 2 jet amal doesn't have the lock nut:

But then I did find this on the web:

None of my motors or spare carbs have it but as my motors and bits are '40's and 50's would indicate that it was introduced with the later (painted) carbs. Do you have a link to the Amal diagram on the main site and is it dated? Would be sensible I must admit!

There is certainly enough meat on thread to facilitate a nut.

^^^I would say that would be your best bet if you want a nut.

I've just had a look through my book "Guide to would screw threads" and there is nothing even close to the size.

What I did work out is that is 40TPI . I just cant see it well enough to work out if it is 55deg or 60deg.

Just a thought but if the nut is in place on an assembly without one then the depth of the nut will lift carb piston above the seat causing higher revs on idle. Which would mean the throttle cable needs to be longer or the sheaving shorter. Easier enough to trim sheath but will probably need to desolder and resolder end tab. Am l thinking this through correctly?

I would vote on 1/8" Whitworth @ 55degrees 40/inch.

Edit: Not 1/8" bsw if the bunnings ones are marked correctly. Too small. My calipers measure .212" diameter.
