So far the dog is ok. I didn't get a chance to bite it back. Believeit or not the dog was on a leash!

Hi Jon,

- just read your offer to scan Seagull manuals in one of your missives, which I am sure is with good intent - I would ask you, however, to respect a tacit agreement we have with British Seagull to not publish information which can be deemed to be their intellectual property, with the aim of maintaining cordial relations with them.

Thanks,
Rick.

here is what i found in some of my paperwork.

The first has no date but is the 19th edition of Operating Instructions, it says use SAE20 OR 30
The next one is from the 1944 SD Instructions, it says use M.160
The last one is from March 1973 and is the 25th edition of Operating Instructions, it says use SAE30 mineral oil.

In the seventeenth 102 operating book at it says, and I quote : S.A.E. 20, 30, or 40, (we favour S.A.E. 20)
The 102 Nineteenth edition, Use a light S.A.E. 20.

I fully agree in that what has come to light recently could be intended or misread if it's intent isn't understood from the beginning. Basically follow the operators manual and you cannot go wrong is what I'm saying
The only thing that has really changed in any of this is the oil itself. I personally have always stuck with the advice that's within these pages of the bs manuals, and up till now have had no problems to speak of.

Get well soon Hugo.
Was it a big dog or an ankle biter?

Can you imagine the look of horror on that dog's face, it's probably licking it's own bits right now, trying to get that taste out of it's mouth!

When do you get out?

Well done Adrian bringing back onto topic :P

I'm suppose to escape tomorrow but a rather nice lrish nurse has turned up. We will see if being "elderly" ìs an advantage or not. You wouldn't be married for quids would you!

Said dog has probably acquired a penchant for gourmet English blood now. Hope he doesn't go for sweetbread next (shudder).

Well, i've been looking and it seems that a lot of the older oils are still available, some slightly tweaked nowadays though.
40 weight it seems is popular with the classic car brigade, and so are a lot of the others too.

Amsoil crops up a lot wherever i look, and going by the previous posts is pretty well known globally.
All of these older oils will of course be straight mineral with nothing added or blended and probably best used with a gas mask if you're using this in a seagull. Very smokey...

I hadn't realised you could still buy Castrol R (castor). Smells wonderful but the goo that's left behind is less wonderful to clean up.

Horses for courses.

Right, that's enough of that for now!

Do i look at the gear oil now?
