Century score

Running a proper' ansome old Century on the Avon at the moment. Normally use the Forty Plus or the Featherweight as they are much handier but a great advantage of the Century is that punching a big tide at 1/4 throttle it is much quieter than the 40 Plus which has to run at full belt to reach the same speed.

That is a very nice clean engine!
How fast do you think the tide flows?

The ebb at Golant on springs is like someone pulled the plug out after periods of sustained heavy rain up on Bodmin Moor. Can reach 4 knots so one needs a good seagull or two. Fortunately am not short in that respect.

Nice area of the world to sail from. Dinghy and good outboard essential! 8)

I sailed into Dartmouth two years ago on a passage from Plymouth to Southampton, shame we did not have the time to explore a few of the nearby rivers too

There are 60 moorings off Golant and plenty more deep water ones down at Wiseman's Reach. Without an outboard you won't get far rowing when the tie is agin. Great place for the gig rowers however - particularly big strong crews......
