Tam,
That looks like something to keep you busy for a bit.
Has the crankcase got a stub tiller boss?
I would be interested in the flywheel date.
Interesting about the air intake, although difficult to see it being an original fitment.
Don't all these carbs on early Forty series have MK11 on the float bowl?
Cheers.

Your going to enjoy working with this little guy Tam.

As Charles stated, the head can be repaired. Take it to a proper head reconditioning outfit.

YES Charles.

I have misplaced an original pic from a while ago. The Old Lad is not assembled yet and is a boxed bird ATM.

Tam,
Thanks for that info.
The flywheel date of August 1951 fits in well with its serial number and its production date of around about Sept/Oct 1951.
You are making good quick progress as you normally do.
I wouldn't mind some data on the carb, although with that mesh (?) on the inlet I would expect the inlet and maybe more to have come from a land based engine. Anyway carb details:-
. Venturi size 7/16" or 1/2?
With throttle stop or not?
I can see the float bowl has a drain hole near the top. I suspect, but I am not really sure that this isn't original.
The choke hasn't got a hole in it which I think is correct for this engine, but there is a curious bit on the end where one operates it.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Tam
I think you'll be surprised what a good welder who knows what they're doing can acheive with some time and patience and clear instruction.

Bruce
Was that head welded with MIG or TIG or something other? I'm curious that's all.
I have a few various other bits in a similar condition needing similar treatment!
