Hi Steve I've seen a 100 that look fine best to swap them around with your other know sparking one or fire an omhs meter onto the coil china

I'm finding this interesting.

The head on my SJP1039B5 is secured with 4 bolts just like that pictured by Tam on the previous page. Is that another standard configuration or did it originally have studs and nuts?

F,FV/P, LS, studs and nuts, then bolts and some slotted nut ones as well.

A tiny spark, well sort of
I bought a new old stock HT lead and tried it out to see if I could get a spark, I couldn't see a spark at the plug so I held the plug out of the sun, pulled the cord and felt what was like static shocks, a good few small tingles rather than what I would have thought was going to be more like touching an electric cattle fence
How much of a jolt should I have got?

Yes to used a rope,
I thought so, I am going to have a look and see if I can spot anything but I think it might be the coil that has gone

If you got a tingle the chances are the coil is good, clean & set the points twice!

I will go and do just that, maybe even 3 times because my idea of clean on my first Carb was a long way off this forums idea

I took the cover off to get at the points, cleaned them with some fine wet and dry, then I thought why not see if I get a spark at the points and I do
so the coil is working, I still can't see a spark at the plug but maybe when the Sun goes down

Try this.
Remove the plug from the head, then try to earth the plug against something made from steel on your motor. (cable ties work here if you have to)
Attach the ht lead to the plug, wrap the rope around and give it "What for".
If your coil is still in working condition and provided you've done everything correctly with the points, you should (fingers crossed) be rewarded with a big fat blue spark across the plug. Make sure the gap on the plug is good as well and that the plug itself is clean and dry.

Thank you Charles and all for the help, I have a spark at the plug, bit more cleaning and checking the setting on the points and I should have this running soon

A spark at the points means that the condenser is on the way out.

The sparking points will require regular cleaning and re-setting as they burn away.
