I suspect someone may have run out of nail vanish, a racing model by the looks of it, which is not a bad thing, the further away the batter it may look.

A quick wire brush up and you're away, I have seen better, also a lot worse, at least it's dismantled.
Seen some lately that have just been left under tarp's at the bottom of the garden, with the spark plugs out obviously.
