63 in march, and looking at the stats, i don't feel old in this group.
And the seams to have always been a 102 somewhere around in my life. Its just now it has friends.
Pottered about on the Deben from about 12, but didn't actually own one till 1979, a 40 plus that I still have and use regularly; age of the 40 plus 40 years; age of moi? 71
My first Seagull experience was when I was about 13 or 14, it was an auxiliary on my fathers little fishing boat, I loved using it until one day... It was stolen, only the bolt on bracket remained. My father owned several other Seagulls over the years which I "borrowed" occasionally, It was not until about ten years ago that I actually got to own one, went to a boat jumble and saw a trailer full of decredip old seagulls, mostly seized, I cannot really remember the price but it was not much and that got me on the road to their use and restoration, I am now 44.
My seagull experience began as a sea scout in the mid 1970s. We had several engines which when fitted to our rowing boats took us off camping to Barton Island near Nottingham on the Trent and to Kegworth on the River Soar. Looking back I recall the angled tank on a FVP, and the bent over thumbscrews on an early 102. We also had longshaft silver centuries. Luckily I found one of the petrol tanks recently with a sticker of "Sawley Bridge Marina" A real relic from my past
More recently I got into seagull ownership and rebuilding about 4 years ago. To date I've rebuilt 3 SDs, 1 FV, 1 FVP, 1SJM, 1 AC plus 1 THC. Loved them all, and I hope others have enjoyed the posts and pictures. I now have my Dads FP, plus a ON to look at. So the Seagull fetish will continue for some time to come. I've just turned 50! The good news is my 2 year old grandson loves going into my garage, so he is being weaned on seagulls and my Triumph
I will be 69 in January, got my first Seagull a 40+ about 2002. Started collecting Seagulls in 2007, and North American outboards as well. Seagulls now make up about 25% of the collection and number about 10 not including parts motors.
The others are from 1914 - to the mid-sixties. Not Seagulls.
I've become disabled recently so now I'm at the point of trying to wind it all down.
