Re: 102 query
Dont know if they left the factory like that but in the very late 60's there were three oyster farmers with seagull on the Clyde river. The other two belonged to a dutch chap, they were 102s and both had villiers carbs, all i remember is they were newer than mine. Because i remember how cool the black carb bowl looked. So it would have been 68-72 .

Re: 102 query
Yes but how a villiers carb could fit on a 102 model cylinder? The diameters are very different.
I love the 10600/145 turns!!!
Re: 102 query
Sorry Your probably right, all i remember as it was a single body carb and the bottom was black, not a two part carb like mine.

Re: 102 query
That could be a 416 Amal carb, it matches with the description and those carbs were replacing Amal 46N (twin jet) when the last failed.

Re: 102 query
yes i agree with STELIOS.
the motor itself was probably as you say a late 60's 102 but the owner probably replaced the original 46n twin jet carb for a later amal 416.
strangely though, i dont think the 416 was introduced until the mid to late 70's. dont know how that fits in with your recolection of the motor in question
good carbs though, i've got one fitted to a 102 "bitsa". (crankcase and internals from a silver century mounted to a 102 block) goes quite well.

Re: 102 query
You were all correct.
Spoke with a local oyster farmer yesterday. He remembered one of the engines. it came to him in the early 80's when he bought the lease.
And he remembered the engines. Though he only had one of them. They were bought new from the dealer in Batemans Bay in 1966 and ran well til the owners son dropped one on the edge of local boat ramp breaking the carb bowl from the carb. It was taken to the local mower repair man who fitted a old Kerby lawnmower carb to get it going, till the replacement carb could be ordered.
After a while the carb began to leak so they painted it with Ormonoid, to seal it. By that stage the replacement carb was long forgotten. This is about the time i saw the motor. We would wave as we passed one another on the water. Eventually the mower man gave them another carb to replace the one that leaked, and the original was repaired and returned.
So it was fitted to the second engine, as they were more powerful, with this carb. it was sprayed black with blackboard paint as a joke so it would be "leak proof" to.
