You're right, you know. In fact another five minutes and Spring will be over, so I reckon a reminder should be issued.

I'll do that this afternoon. This morning I must take Harry the fluffy black cat to the vet - he fell out of a tree and damaged himself; he's not very good at being a proper cat. He's just been treated with the local flea preventer - very effective stuff called 'Frontline', a procedure he doesn't like.

Now with all this talk on the TV and Radio about 'Harry' and Front Line' and 'should he go to Iraq' and be 'targetted by the Al Quaeda' poor Harry has been listening and has become quite twitchy, so it'll take me hours to find him...

But you're absolutely right, the challenge must go ahead. Despite the doubters I'm sure the Seagull reputation will remain untarnished.

In the twenties Malcolm Campbell’s first Bluebird was powered by a V12 Sunbeam "Manitou" engine. That places British Seagull at the end of a line of thoroughbreds perhaps not previously considered.

Now that Spring is sprung and Summer is started, I have mailed the gentleman thus:

Maybe you will remember my suggestion a while ago that we compare your motor with a Seagull. At the time you were suffering from back problems from which I sincerely hope you are fully recovered.

Can we revive the original challenge? I - and a number of others - would like to see the results!

Perhaps we can now prove the original point; at the very least test it.

Ever since the original exchange and challenge I have kept an eye open for a Suzuki 2.2 to borrow or possibly buy, purely in the interests of research. No such luck as yet. I have, however, been offered the loan of a Mariner 2.5. In the event of a 'cop-out' I'll compare this with a couple of Seagulls and publish the results here.

I shall naturally pay no heed to 'Smoke Emissions' or 'Noise' as they are part of the charm of a Seagull.

I actually have received a reply, and he's interested..

He's away until Wednesday, and I have his phone number. If he really has to choose Lymington (because of the availability of marine engineering facilities and a 'neutral' boat, then I shall have to be careful to take a full tool kit. Oh, no problem I have one of John's stainless ones

I have a Silver Century ready, and a Kingfisher just to prove a point, but I reckon we'd better have a 102 and a forty as well.

Wonder if I could talk Andy into joining in with one of his collection of Marstons.. I'll ring him this weekend I think.

As Practical Boat Owner (not the publishers of the original slur) have been so helpful to me in my research I wonder if they'd be interested..

Well I did leave an phone message, he's never got back to me...

I have a steel boat of about 600kg. (20 feet) and with my Century 100 I lost a race against a Mercury 2.2 hp. (tailwind) until we came on the big lake and had to beat Bf. 6 and waves of lets say 2 feet high coming from ahead. From that moment on the Mercury powered boat (same length as mine) disappeared very soon behind the Blue Curtains of a 10:1 running B.S.

Success is depending on the weather circumstances, I believe...

I thought I saw a Suzuki 2.2 hp for sale lately on EBay...guy was willing to trade for a Seagull of any model. It was written up in very small, under-the-radar print!
