Saving Old Seagulls

Tell me more about thisd embargo.

I am quite confident about the first batch going to the far East. I'm not at all certain what ahppened to them after acceptance into Services' hands.

I'm also quite confident they were Army, not Admiralty, property.

Hi. I'm just new to Seagull ownership. The identifier worked pretty well (I think) I tried checking it manually but it was pretty confusing. I thought I had a 102 5hp but supposedly some models were 3.5 to 4 hp with a Villiers carb. Mine has an Amal carb. I know very little about it but the identifier seem more accurate to what I have in my shed.

F331 E0 is a May 1970 Forty Featherweight.

thanks, find had put in the last two letters as LO, dirt was covering the E,that means SJM 542 W7 , is my oldest.would be nice to have one the same age as me,but in better condition,up to 11 models at moment +blow lamps +tilley and vapa-lux pressure lanterns,not counting the primus stoves,if only i had a shed,have to call a halt before floor gives way.

I have purchased 'AD 1480'.
I see from the Identifier, a bow tie is the accepted prop. This of course would mean the round (sorry, forgot the correct term) exhaust.
I have also 'AD 10622', which does have the round exhaust with bow tie prop, but the earlier model above has a flat exhaust with two blade swept prop.
Is this on the cusp of change?

Can't quite see your exhaust, I presume with the 'bow tie' prop it is round.

Looking through Charles's summary, mine has:
two box nipples
all brass clamp (not the skeleton) with bent thumbscrews
tank jubilee clips and bayonet cap
plain flywheel plate and small pulley wheel

Unfortunately the tank decal is long gone, but it has superb compression!

Been given a seagull, looks a smaller crank than my fvp, the flywheel has remnants of gold paint and is very badly corroded, plastic pull start
and a very small 4 blade prop.

The only problem is I cannot see any sign of a serial number, the rest of the outboard seems in reasonable condition other than it is most definitely seized, did they ever stamp serial numbers in other places as there is no sign of the serial having been removed from its common place?

May or may not be the correct answer for your motor but Seagull dealers kept stocks of replacement crankcases to repair those unfortunate motors that fell over and had their tiller mounting lug ripped off the crankcase. These dealer crankcases naturally left the factory without any serial stamped on them....... A slack dealer might not have bothered to stamp the serial on the repaired motor ....

No obvious signs that it has been machined /filed off?

It looks like its been used as an anker.

That's a featherweight that looks like it's spent some time on the seabed.

That is the correct place.

As Charles says it is a Featherweight.

Since it has :

A plastic carb venturi compensator
A plastic float bowl
A plastic tank cap
A later style rubber tiller handle
A plastic rope pull cover
A plastic rivet on the tilt latch

I'd conclude that it has quite a few "matching" items that suggest an "honest" F series 1967 -1976 Featherweight. If it also has a Wipac magneto and two hole flywheel I'd feel quite confident on that. Overall length should be 33.5 " (851mm).

Thanks for the helpful info, would have been better with a serial number, anyway will have to see what I can do with it when i get time.

I had no Luck with JM36296. I double checked the number....
This could be a post '64 model.
