1930. Nice find. Looks like you will need some spare parts.

Thanks , I believe the bracket might not be too hard to get but maybe not in the UK . If anyone has one I'd be interested

Is there any movement in any of the parts that should move? looks like it is well seized.

K50 I'm guessing it is 5HP

I've been told its 8hp although the tank is marked as 12 , apparently thats on all of them . It is fairly stuck overall but I'm optimistic . I just need to approach with caution as any broken bits will be hard to replace

It is rated for 8 hp. American outboard manufacturers were in the midst of a horsepower race when the Johnson ā€œ12ā€ was produced. The Outboard Boating Club of American (OBC) standardized horsepower ratings a few years later and the K-50ā€™s rating was dropped down to a more realistic 8 hp.

I thought the K50 was only produced in 1930, but it seems it was made from 1930-32. If you post the serial number I can tell you the exact year.

Hi ,

The serial number is 141702 , I was advised that its a 1930 model with a later block but I'd welcome any further info

It is a 1930 according to the serial number. Iā€™m not familiar enough with them to know if the powerhead is correct for the year.
