Both sides are exactly the same, tapered crank with a key way on both end, just 180% out on the key ways and yes its an ANZANI.

I have 5 Anzanis (4 different models) Keith & none have a crankshaft like that.

So it must be a model you haven't got.
It is an odd one, as I said, I don't think its all that common having an Anzani inboard motor.

I knew that it must be Anzani because of the crank build. The cranks are made by JAP for British Anzani.......with J.A.P. ground from one side of the rod. 99% were anyway.

The other taper indicated some form of put put or similar power coupling end.......starter or chain assy etc. That stumped me. Well done.

SOS has an advert for one with a belt drive.......once I committed to googling just now.

Its no actually that model, the one I have has a, or should I say had a square fuel tank and the exhaust above the cylinder, not below like this model, the one I have is from around 1953, I believe that picture is from 1951.

The only 'outboard' that I've seen with a double tapered crank like that is the Tas / Sea Hawk. The upper taper is of course for the flywheel magneto. The lower taper is for the cooling fan which blows air from the underside of the cylinder, ducted for improved efficiency via a fan cowl assembly.

From what i understand, double tapers like that are not uncommon on stationary engines.

Well Anzani did come up with some strange looking motors over the years, like the two Super singles bolted together and so on.
I did find a picture of one, but it's still not exactly the same as my one, the base is different, but the rest is pretty much the same.
I will post up some pictures as soon as I have something worth taking a picture of.

I’ve seen one of those Anzani engines with 2super singles grafted together belonging to a forum member. Interesting looking engine,

I had to fix something before I could really get started, as you can see, it didn't look good.
So I plugged my old Oxford welder and had a go, not too bad if I say so myself.
Time to take over the kitchen table and do some painting.

At the moment I don't know if it even runs, plus I'm still looking for the right fuel tank.
It will most probably be a display motor and go in the shed with my other 50 paper weights.
