Thanks for the help in getting the bits!
Re: Mallard rebuild
I had a further fiddle with the Mallard yesterday. It starts well and is a very free revving engine, pumps plenty of water including over me as the water uplift tuble is leaking where it locates into the jacket However the engine still just cuts out without warning, even when running at a fast tickover.
Any suggestions? It has a new plug, plug cap and HT lead fitted, and the points are cleaned and gapped. With it cutting out like that I'm wondering if there is an intermittent short somwhere that cuts the ignition. It does not feel like fuel starvation, but then again this poppet valve is new to me.

Re: Mallard rebuild
The carb is pretty simple, the only thing that can cause a problem is the metering hole in the poppet seat. Fuel is metered through it via the mixture screw.
Poppet off seat, fuel comes out and poppet on seat no fuel comes out.
Compressed air and carb cleaner through that hole.
If the the poppet sticks somehow, open or closed, the engine will stop.

Re: Mallard rebuild
Also, the carb induction is very close to the water pipe attachment on the base of the block.........If you are getting wet from your leak there, maybe the carb is getting a serve as well?
Just a thought.
