What is your verdict on this one?

Should be able to find one in the back of beyond (outback) cheaply.
cheers...

Re: Anzani Pilot
Hugo there are members of this site who go to the local high school metal working evening classes to get where your trying to go.
A good selection of modern very well maintained engineering workshop machines, mills, lathes, grinders, power saws with all the tooling & qualified supervision.
The only negative is that it's only for 2 hours on a tuesday night, this would be the logical way to go if you only are likely to need a few things made a year.
A new cheap Chinese knurling tool tool to produce the H-a's Anzani Knob will cost more than the rest of the motor making the luxury of having the "right knob" very expensive.

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: Anzani Pilot
To be honest, lots of lathe tools are not that expensive, I have auto taps and the like that I cant even give away.
A tool that cost £350 new and it wont even sell for £25, this type of thing, one adjustable knurling tool

Hi guys,
Not really sure about how to use these forums! Here goes;
I've just bought an early anzani pilot. Slight problem with water pump. Can the rubber insert still be obtained?
Cheers paul

Re: Anzani Pilot
I believe that one of these wobble pumps will fit. Do a scan of your old one and send with a question. One of my pilots had a "Ring In" that worked. I believe it was the Johnson one.
Let me know how you go.

My 47 omc motor uses one, after 1950 they went to implores and now you have to strip down the hole motor to replace one.
Re: Anzani Pilot
Paul - you can probably bring the rubber 'doughnut' back to life. Thke it out of the housing and massage it under a hot water tap for a few minutes, and you will find that it will relax and assume its correct shape. make sure everything associated with th pump is OK - eg. the water pipes and the small slots for water entry in the side of the casing are clear.
I like to spray the doughnut and the area it locates in with a silicon spray so everything slides/seals easily.
Reassemble and give it a go - these pumps are usually very effective.
If you are havnignt he gear end apart, tek off the pump housing (two screws and a wriggle off the water pipe, and check the gears - they were normally run in waterproof grease which turns to soap and the gears are running in fresh air. I fill with a 140 weight oil.

Re: Anzani Pilot
Yeh, they tend to dry out and go rock hard, or, swell up into a soft nasty mess because grease has covered them for years.
The hard ones can be, if really lucky, be softened reasonably with soaking in transmission stop leak additive which you buy at any auto parts store.
Keep an eye on your soaking as really solid examples will probably "Fluff Up" on the external surfaces before any "Softening" of the wobble happens.
Works sometimes.

Re: Anzani Pilot
The designer of that caravan is a genius,
Perhaps we should have a contest to point out the cleverest bits of his design.
1. A caravan toilet that never needs emptying & doubles as an outboard well.
Mind you he did miss this one, If he had used a Seagull, he could have smoked any fish he caught by hanging them from the curtain rail.

I wish the River Lea still looked that good, nothing but weeds and rubbish.
