Saving Old Seagulls

Our Fun Filled regatta race is nearly upon us again - on the 29th December. I know it's the only tide available but it's pretty near the Christmas hols this time!
(I've had to get a theme costume this time . . . )

Signing on starts 9am. Mince pies, mulled wine, and I expect the pub is open, besides our now extra wonderful village shop with all sorts of goodies.

Bah,....., for the first time in years I will not be in Cornwall for New Year's. I have only just discovered the "joy" of British Seagulls. Next year I will be there.

Well what do you costume up for 'Strictly come Boating'?

Yes we are both sequined at top, head and front. It is difficult to attain the dress and not freeze to death. Last year's 'By the Seaside' theme got a bloke from Penryn in his onepiece. Yes just his onepiece. Must be that mulled wine.

As I shall be making a tw*t of myself on the river I shan't be taking any pics. But the Lerryn webpage will show all. Probably me being towed back . . ,

could I fix two Seagulls to my narrow transom, say Century size?

Well here is a picture pre ignomineous failure -

You will think, motors too high in water causing all that froth. No, there are two motors, a 170 and a 102. Attached to quite a narrow skiff transom. Which is well down in the water.
The combined weight of both engines, plus me, did not allow a level waterline. At one time the prow went up quite considerably on momentary full throttle. (Both engines have substantial anti ventilation plates)
The reason for the intermittant cutting out was LAck Of Weight at the front passenger!! (I can only presume) The props were thrashing away at each other and maybe depleting the other of cooling water, causing momentary seizure.
- well, its happened before on turning the buoy too fast and I can't think of ought else. They worked perfect together the day before with a 16 stone passenger and the day after in the tank. .
Thats my theory, I'm grateful for opinions . . .

Did you give it a go with just the 170 for a spell?

I'm afraid we used just the 170 last year. And won, easily.
This year was intended to win even better. Ah well . . .

Not knowing whether Horsradish Anorak would turn up I thought to improve power - although in a longer class.
The winner had a 170 on a canoe shape about 13 - 14' long with a transom. Again a different class. But we were certainly catching up until I gave up.

Mind - failure is not as bad as being beaten!

We almost came Andy but my new engine and boat combo is just too fast, was afraid of a lifetime ban for doing over three times the harbour speed limit.

Perhaps next year I hope.

I shall express embarassment - I don't whether you have one or two LL's, Allen!
