Start organising one.
I'm up for it if anyone else is...

Info on boat launching/retreival and any associated fees would be helpful too...
Maps on where you're thinking of going is a good idea as well.

Distance isn't so important, but a run down the river from the docks to the Butt and Oyster and back; with lunch at the pub would be a great day out. Don't think you will get a lot of participation but once you get the dates fixed some will commit. Re racing Charles is you man. I only know of two in the UK one occasionally in Scotland the other in Devon, then the Chosley gathering each year on the Thames.

I was thinking the butt and oyster would be a great starting point you can easily launch there and its free!
Was also thinking around one of the legs of the Orwell bridge??

Sounds like a plan! I lived at Nacton, just across the water, but there wasn't a bridge there then, and Felixstow dock was a small basin taking 500 tone cross channel freighters at best. Now it is the largest container port in the UK.. Ipswich docks at that time were much larger than Felixstow and was still being visited by the last of the trading sailing barges..... today Ipswich docks consist of mariners, floating restaurants and flats, times change.

Yeah it has changed a fair bit, I'm only 30 so i can't remember it before the bridge...
I grew up in Holbrook though so i know the Shotley peninsular very well.
Live in Ipswich now and quite fancy a flock of seagulls on the Orwell!
