Hey guys,
I'm just wondering which model of seagull I would best to get in terms of speed for racing.
I don't want to be to serious but figure I might as well start with an engine with good potential.
Cheers
Fastest standard model?

Re: Fastest standard model?
Unusual first post, welcome to the forum.
Which race are you thinking of entering?
In standard form, with no mods I would say, in order (not including badged selva)
5R
Seagull 6
Kingfisher
170
Silver Century
102
Chucky will correct me I am sure

No chance of correcting that, 10/10!
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Re: Fastest standard model?
Thanks Fellas,
I am in NZ. I entered a small local race with a Century I recently purchased and next year I just want to go faster!
I wouldn't mind having a crack at the Waikato race sometime in the future.
I'll be on the lookout for a 5R.
Thanks again,
CB

Re: Fastest standard model?
I'd stick with a century for now, and slowly start to fettle certain areas on the motor to optimise it's performance.
A 5R by comparison will be HORRIBLY EXPENSIVE (not to mention incredibly delicate by now)
Just have a look through some older posts on this subject and you might see why!
At least with the classic range of motors (with bronze crank bushes) they are pretty tough, rugged, and provided you've gone over everything CAREFULLY, should last just as long if not longer than a 5R. (but not as much power)
It's the size/weight of boat you use that will make a bigger difference. (ask H-A or Charles) and they'll talk you through what you need to know.
