All i have to say OH WOW, this is inspiring work.

A question for these engineering geniuses if i may.

Would it be legal to mate a silver century powerhead to a Yamaha or mariner leg it will still be a "seagull engine" but you would have a much wider range of of the shelf props available. Hang on isn't that wath some of the later real seagull engines are?

The R5 seagull are filled with a Yamaha leg.

Waikato rules 2014.

"4.5hp Modified Class: any hull, minimum length 10 ft, classic seagull must have seagull block (no liner), crankcase, flywheel, head, carburettor. Leg from other outboard allowed, reed valves allowed, tuned pipes allowed, cavitation plate and prop modifications allowed, engines are 102, century, and silver century or two 2.5hp 64cc seagulls, oversize piston allowed, gearbox nose cones allowed in the modified class only. Two records, one with tuned pipe & one without."

This is the only class you could run your proposed mongrel in, not many entrants in this class, so a good chance of getting placed.

Not an easy powerhead to fix onto a Yamaha/Mariner leg & might find it hard to find a prop your Seagull could spin.

Why i asked is i have a silver century complete power head coming from the UK at Christmas, And i allready own a 4hp Yamaha, 5hp Mariner and a junk 4hp mariner so it seamed a logical plan. You know, Most powerful normal seagull that a normal person can find (afford to buy) and a common leg. Guess i will have to see if i can find a good century leg in OZ.

It has been done THCL500J8, Its a simple concept but take a bit of work to setup, You will need a slab of aluminium and a drill press and a milling machine could be done other ways but this is the way I have mine, They make very nice quiet smooth running motors and having a good water pump and reverse gear is alway very handy, The props i run are cut down but I do run a full blade that has been cupped. It can still pull good revs with the modded powerhead so on a standard powerhead you might have to de-pitch the props or cut down the blades.

I guess the obvious question is how much speed gain do you get after all that work? Same hull and conditions

Well if you think about it this way, if you can get the powerhead to the same running revs as the yamaha powerhead with the leg that indicates the speed increase. Here are some more things somewhat outside the box.

There are even more untold outside the box stories, None more that Al Ward who has featured in the gull magazine a few times are real innovator his latest creation was a sight to see!

I saw Bk Xpress going down the river & thought, magic! , there's a bloody Kiwi thinking "I wonder how that would go" a perfect illustration of a Kiwi "thinking outside the box", there's a man I will be watching with interest!

It's even got electric start & brakes.

Ok now he's just rubbing it in.

And I suppose this is the prototype "seagull Twin Transport System" So you don't get tired carry that heavy engine all the way to the boat.


I'm guessing its the engine, drive and rear wheel assembly for a small scooter. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Now this one is off the planet, a motor scooter running on wood, just like cars did during the war.
