Hi,
My friend is looking at doing the Hayling island marathon next year, so we are going to come down and watch, if anyone needs a 2nd crew member i'm sure he would be up for it this time ! (i will ask him)
I dont do tidal as get sea sick !!!
We will come down and say hello at the slip
Looking at the map Hayling/Thorney island would be the best place to be to watch, does anyone know if the passenger ferry goes from itchenor to Haying or Thorney island ?
Charles will be around the slip during the race as he is the time keeper, then after the race we are going to Itchenor boat club, it is to the right of the slip as you look at the water.
I believe we have a large table in the restaurant, with a buffet style meal, all welcome.
This years event was again completed safely with no breakdowns (Apart from my "trusty" backup 102 when tested after the race was running like a pig )
5 boats took part, first boat home has H-A crewed by myself, with a winning margin of over an hour. H-A's combination of boat and moderately tuned century will certainly take some beating. There was a moderate chop due to wind and tide combination around the entrance to both Chichester and Langstone harbours, but the weather was fine.
Well done to all competitors, and a big thank you to Blue for following everybody around as a safety boat. I'm sure some more photos will be up shortly. I think we have several other potential boats for next year, so this event could well grow.
As I couldn't get into a boat I was promoted to timekeeper & missed a good day out on the water & a red face, everyone who started finished the course , though Martin did get stopped by the Harbour Master, but not for speeding.
Barry/Blue once again filled the "safety boat" role & did a brilliant job with his lovley wife Diane. Thanks again Barry!
Itchenor Sailing Club did a great job of housing & feeding us for the weekend & even had enough Dutch beer to stop our Dutch visitors getting dehydrated! Good to see you again Gentlemen!
Mark hld absolutely flew around with a new "tinny" boat & untested motor (model 75), it looks like he's set a time to beat 4.03, as H-A was only 33 minutes in front of him with his modified motor & longer hull.
Perhaps someone will show H-A & Mark how to do it next year.
More pictures to follow when I get them.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Hi Charles
Thanks for organising a great day, cant wait for next year when you might mange to get in a boat yourself for a little more competion
i will try to keep hold of my trophy - so bring it on next year, looking forward to maybe seeing some new faces well you can see the back of my head
it was nice to catch up with old and new faces this year including John and his wife.
watch your back HA i think you might have some competion next year in the modified class, so make sure you shine your trophy up ready to hand it over.
