Looking for an inflatable to potter about on Scottish lochs. I have a 40+ short shaft I'm ready to buy. I plan to strip and rebuild it. Just wondering how this combination Will work out? I've read a lot of conflicting accounts.

I often use my Avon Redcrest in conjunction with an FV. The combination works quite well. I cannot see why the extra weight and thrust from a 40+ would be a problem. In fact it would probably work better, especially with a heavier load om board.
The only thing that l have found is that the standard Avon outboard bracket brings the engine quite close the water level especially if the Avon is not pumped up hard. I modified the wooden part of the bracket so that it gave more tilt to the engine, which did help. So keep it hard for best results!

I used a Forty Plus on a Redcrest for several years and plan to do so again soon. If the Redcrest has the floorboards in it certainly helps.
