Looks very white for that and very neatly applied. thought it may be a gun applied fillet.

Silica for sure. H-A if you cut a rubber spatula to the right shape, get the right mix and stay sober during the application it runs on very true. Wet the ply with straight resin first and apply fillet just before it tacks up and get grabby. i.e it is still wettish but not enough to drip. What do you use with your poly resin? The silica is dirt cheap I bought 5 pounds years ago and it came in a 2 foot x 2 foot box and should last about forever.

Silica is only a thickening agent like cornflower probably also contains cotton fibres or glass to give some strength to the fillet before taping over, epoxy penetrates timber better than poly & vinylester but without a very low viscosity epoxy sealer/primer like episeal will still tear the ply apart under severe loading.

Silica, it is not that white

Cab-o-sil is light weight, low density fumed silica powder additive for use in all types of resins and gelcoats although, when used to thicken polyester or vinylester resins, creates an excellent medium sanding, non-slumping compound.

This stuff (what I use) is white as the driven snow and strong like bull. The corse silica I have used in blasting cabinets is also pretty darn white. Maybe all your brit silica got too much coal dust on it back in the day?
One neat thing about it also is that it takes pigment well, Lime green chine anyone? With UV stabilizer and pigment you could do the ply in one color (i.e apply FG before construction) and then contrast with a colored chine log.......

Tons of ways to make a boat float no wrong way if the skipper is pleased.

We are using West Systems Epoxy and powders the boats will be full Epoxy boats, they won’t have a
flash paint job as they’re going to get knocked around can redo it later.

Knocked about I guess! that is going to be a 'hard on gear' adventure to be sure. To be honest I never understood fancy bright work myself, battle ship grey accented with fish scales and goose blood on good clean lines is as pretty as any boat needds be IMHO.

Horsley – Anarak: There’s a few courses missing from that list, no time for golf may take a club for the Joe Blakes.

Bottom Planks fitted it’s starting to look like a boat, very happy so far roll on Saturday.

It's gone very quiet, you must be about to pull it off those frames, what's happening?

Just because we have been quiet it doesn’t mean little has been happening it’s those little jobs that
chew the time I took the weekend off and shot up to Wentworth to look at the Junction Rally and
play with a steam launch. Alan (boat number 3) has soldiered on and spent hours taping and lofting
the furniture patterns he has built 95% of the boat I am only able to get there on Saturdays 1½ hour
drive to the shed. This Saturday it gets turned over and next week we start on boat number 2

Stelios: I bought a set of Mark Bowdidge plans (Bosuns mate 23) they are very good and his back up
service is second to none as they say you get what you pay for.




The Transom and Stern after the framing has been removed, neat eh!
