Well, the "little Ship" has come along very well indeed!

Here are pics of , somewhat nasty quality, of finished hull and upper splash bits. The new ship has been fully seam welded every plank, both sides. Technician is cleaning up continuous welds.

The "Jig" has been stored as of now. All welding operations resulted in less than 1% twist lengthwise. Cool eh?

Deck is done!

On its trailer as well.

Off to being painted proffessionally.

I have ordered one similar, for delivery end July 2011. (With transom plate height adjuster for ALL of my Old Dears) should be a sliding fit idea I have in mind. And still look the goods in any config from astern. Three different adjustable sliding jigs aye!

Little Ship is painted. Not my choisce of colours but never mind.

This one has no flotation.............mine will.

My mate has many vintage engines to put on it but he has got a 2010 6Hp Yamaha as the primary source of Ergs.

(Wise Man) as being remote in our Southwest with something Old, while fun, may cost a body dearly.

Not sure on the colours used. Is the red interior to hide the blood when you get bitten by a Croc?.

Well, Little Boat is just that and nothing else. Actually used it in the flesh with a couple of Old Dears just recently.

Very displacement. 8 knots no more.

Also, as I suspected previous, TOO BLOODY LIGHT in the water.

I will start thread about that with pics of Old Dears in use on it. Looks the part Aye but not what is the real deal.

I cancelled my order for sister ship by the way. Wood conversion to Aluminium, no matter how diligent............does not work.

Little Ship was on the water over the new year.

I have cancelled my order for one like it. Far too light!

Should be wood.

Mind you a 1928 Britannia and 1956 Australian Riptide Fisherman putting up and down was COOL!

Hello B - I have paperwork somewhere announcing the launch of Britannias in' 32 - they made that style through the rest of the '30's, which I think are far prettier than the post war models (at least through our 'modern' eyes I suppose).

I have some hazy recollection that they slightly reduced the engine capacity at some point, and that they changed cooling principles - the vacuum-by-prop method, water shoved up a horn scoop immediately behing the prop, and pumped cooling, which I think was much later.

UPDATE!

I am not going in this direction at all. Especially this design and size and materials and................do not like it at all actually.

It is basically far too small and light.

I have just purchased plans on line for a stich glue basic with room to fit it out as I wish, will also be cheaper.

The build instructions are very simple & explain just about all the basic rules of stich & glue a valuable read for anyone considering building their first boat.

It is possible to stitch and glue these boats out of aluminium. Modern panel glues used in the motor industry make it easy. The stitching can be done with rivets and ali angle in the corners. A light aluminium flat bottom boat would definitely be an advantage.

I've been looking for plans for a flat bottomed 12ft American 'Jon Boat'. Any suggestions? Must be lightweight, yet tough. I'm at the stage of drawing my own.

The idea was to build it from aluminium using rivets & urethane. Welding light alloy distorts too much for my liking.
