Re: Bought Another One
The A series did have a copper fuel line in similar shape to yours but you are correct it does look a little strange ie extra fittings.

Re: Nice SD on eBay
Oh good. That is the 6th oldest one known to be in captivity. It would also have a B# on the other side of the crankcase. To think that motor helped win WW2. Cherish it!

Re: Bought Another One
A later AD with bow tie prop and subejector exhaust and one nipple box. An honest motor. After WW2 industry was directed to ramp up their export market to bring in the bacon to replenish Englands depleted coffers. AUS was a prime market and a lot of 102's ended up here.

Re: Nice SD on eBay
Well done. A good pick up. Did you make him an offer he can't refuse.... I thought it might end up on here so didn't hassle the seller for the details. I would like to have the engine and JM number and whether clutch lever is plain. Is that the remains of a decal on the tank? What side are the nippl...

Re: Nice SD on eBay
It does look original. Even still has the depth collar. Cant make out the engine number but by the hex nut and starboard gearbox (I think) nipples I would say it is an early P3 one. Extended tiller arm too. My data indicates about 20% had the brass carb body. Sensible starting price.

Bottom picture correct for SD (copper fuel line), top picture post war. I always thought the front of motor is the transom bracket.

Found out today the Australian Army had them. Lots of the parts surfacing here are ex army stores. I need some riders foot pegs!

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please
Seagulls and Bantams seem to go hand in hand. Same tools and techniques required by both. Only sad bit is that the crankshaft needs to be split to change big end roller bearings. Mine feels ok so fingers crossed. Going to be underpowered like a seagull...
Edit: Just noticed Raya said same thing.

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please
Yep, that is the same as mine except I've got a pillion saddle instead of the rack. Just need to collect a few more parts and reassemble. I need to get a bike licence too. I used to ride with just an 'L' plate but they are stricter 40 years on now..

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please
I don't think so but what l did learn was that UK industry was directed to produce goods for the export market to increase the coffers after WW2. Excellent record were kept by BSA and this one left the factory on 24th of October '1950 and was freightered to a dealer in Melbourne. We have a lot of ea...
