Re: Stiff to pull
Thanks H-A. Will respond when I do this, fingers crossed it's not but it could well be. I noticed on my FPC if you lift the flywheel there's a little free movement, however there's none on this baby which might suggest a bent crankshaft.

Re: Stiff to pull
Alas, it's not right, with the plug out it's still requiring a hard pull to turn the flywheel. What happened was, the securing wire on the bolts of the piston rod must've had excess which snapped off, got down between the piston and the barrel. There's scratches on the barrel and piston which I've h...

Stiff to pull
Hi Guys, can I get some of your eperience please? I've just rebuilt a 40+. What I'm finding, the flywheel is very stiff to pull, so much that the stand moves when I try, any ideas please? I got it to run for about 5-10 seconds then it stopped, but I could have dirt in the fuel line. If it's anything...

Re: Clinker on the Bay
Clinker or Clunker in my eyes it's a nice sight.
Sadly it has been ignored but I bet someone will rejuvenate it.

Clinker on the Bay
Hi Guys Maybe some of you guys might like to look at this baby. If only my wife liked boats but sadly it's not going to be mine, she who must be obeyed didn't even say anything when I showed it to her. cgi.ebay.co.uk/vintage-clinker-built-rowing-boat-/320617036978?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item...

Re: Free Seagull Parts
I can't believe I'm reading someone saying he doesn't mind a guy making £150 out of a can of oil, in my books these guys are bad. Making a profit is one thing but ripping people off is another. It says a lot about people. I'd steer clear of him and his likes.

Re: Free Seagull Parts
Phew what a prize, a free pull cord. Sorry for being synical but once I read Charles' post I simply had to have a look at what this site offered. Within a few seconds I see he's asking £13.99 for 500ml of EP140. I paid £12 for 5 litres. I know it's not always easily available but that's him making £...

Re: Made another boat.
H-A, no intent to say anything negative, I did say I realised it was minus a body onboard. It was more of a question than being smart. Like yourself I like the slim style but I'm more for stability, so I've learned something from you again. Looks really nice though. I think where I'm intending going...

Re: RNLI, we can help!
Absolutely spot on mate. There's also the idiots who need help due to reckless behaviour or simply being crazy, charge them too. My old workmates used to man the Troon lifeboat and some of the calls they answered were unbelievable, people going out either in conditions a cruise ship wouldn't, or eve...

Another question, would adding skegs stabalise it more?

Re: Made another boat.
Looks good, is it not sitting a bit high at the bow? Looks like it would take off like a rocket. I realise with some weight it will plain out a bit, I'm not knocking it, just asking questions as I'm only learning about designs.

Re: Stripping a 40 plus
Well done so far Andy. I got a bit of advice when I was doing the exact same thing as yourself. Find a Machine Mart and buy a three legged glaze breaker, ideal for honing the bore. Lots of elbow grease for the other stuff, plus soaking the piston in petrol/diesel to loosen the rings. You may be luck...

Re: Made another boat.
Nice H-A, I like the size, shape and weight. It looks ideal for carrying on a roofrack. Can you post some pics and maybe even give us some of the measurements? How would it fair in a sheltered sea? I don't know if you know Largs, the water around the area is quite sheltered by islands, that's where ...

H-A
What's the verdict on the new boat, I assume it's now floating on water!
I notice when laying the cloth over the hull there's excess at the bow, however the finished job looks neat, can you explain how you make a nice finish like that? Is it cut along the bow or what?
