Re: flywheel not turning

Well done, that's a nice find. Witht he little eperience I have I could suggest a couple of things, first does the prop turn freely? If not you might find some WD40 in the gear housing, it might be seized. Another idea if the prop is turning, take off the cover plate and try getting some WD40 down t...

Hi Ray, welcome. I'm sure you'll enjoy being a member here, if you want a question answered you've found the right place, the guys here have seen it all.
Nice video, I noticed the choke was still on, try and remember to flick it back. Sounded good though.

Hope you enjoy it on the water.

Re: Beginners design and build

When I was mentioning a bosun's locker type thing, I was thinking of something like the bow of the "Poole Canoe" as seen on Charles' thread, but not being closed, maybe a hatch inside where tools and stuff could be stored out the way.

Re: British Seagull, Boat-builders

I like this one, however, would our wee seagull's move them? I wouldn't expect much speed, but it would be nice to replicate one, even a bit smaller. There's an exercise for someone to draw up plans, say 12ft.

Re: British Seagull, Boat-builders

Hi Manifold and Charles, if you go to google, enter images, you have a wide range of photos of these canoes. From the youtube video it looks quite stable.

Re: Beginners design and build

I'm sure you're right, just thought I'd ask. I saw with making a card model it was flimsy so just wondered what the real thing would be like. I'm hoping others are getting good information from this thread to encourage them to design and build, that's why I'm asking questions to help us newbies to b...

Re: Beginners design and build

Manifold or HA, as I was trying to make a cardboard model I realised the transom was a bit tricky to measure, will this be the case using plywood. I assume the structure when stitched, will have a lot of sag and movement. Is there any software where the complete plans are printable, including the tr...

Re: Very competitively priced SAE 140 gear oil: UK

Certainly the best buy. I've sourced many places and my local retailer was £14.99.
I use EP140 in my 40+ engines and my 40+ with clutch (even though it should be EP90).
But then, I'm a tight fisted Scotsman.

Re: Beginners design and build

Tidy, that is easy to follow. Would it change things if I didn't have any sealed compartments, i.e. an open seat not boxed in like HA has done? I already suggested a bosun locker, actually I wasn't going to put a closed bit on it either, I was thinking of just a shelter for storing stuff out of the ...

Re: Cooling

Indeed this is common. On some, i.e. with clutches they do tend to pour water at idle but most others need a bit of rev before the water comes through.

Re: Beginners design and build

More good info lads, thanks. Has this message from Spadge got anything to do with the thread, this is where threads always die a death when people start sending personal messages, hopefully not this one? Now we're getting into the technical side of boyancy and the likes would anyone (Manifold, HA, C...

Re: Beginners design and build

Understood! The Morgan looked good until he did the taping on the outside. Am I right in thinking that once the chines have been filled and rounded, the outside should be covered in cloth and resin? Or is it merely painted with resin only then finished with paint? HAs boat looks nice. If I don't hav...

Re: Beginners design and build

Gooday Hugz, I thought that way too but I've had a thing for quite a while about boats then I bought plans from Glen-L but they are for someone with a bit of experience. The idea of designing and building your own wee boat sounds good to me. My problem is I don't know much about what the guys talk a...

Re: Beginners design and build

Superb, thanks Manifold. My last test piece last night on Carene was almost what you gave me here, I emphasise nearly, well I had the length the same. Seriously, it was quite near. I seemed to be flatter from mid to bow and rising aft. Thanks for this. My engines are standard shafts, on 40+, I think...
