Re: British Seagull Starting Problems!

Hi, seal both sides of the gasket. You should also aneal the gasket if it is the old one being reused. Also make sure you oil up the moving inner workings before closing it all up.IE piston, crank, bushes and all that. I think you are cleaning all the oil out of the crank case, so make sure you put ...

Re: British Seagull Starting Problems!

Hi there, don't give up! Take a look at this post, search for- My Seagull only runs on power start! Answer could be that the insides are dry and not sealing correctly. Put some oil in the plug hole and down the carb, wizz it round a few times, put the plug back in and try again. Let us know what hap...

Re: whats the value?

Hi WBG, ok so a grown-up answer. I would pay £25 if it was local to me, and I wanted it. If you look on the bay and are a member you can search for completed items. This will show actual sales and you can see the range of prices paid. As for selling, I would expect no more than £100 for an average n...

Re: whats the value?

Hi WBG, this is the age old question. If you are buying then it's common as muck and worth £12.50 in running order. If you are selling then it's a bit of history worth a fortune, even if it won't run. Last, if you are stuck in the solent with no wind and a broken inboard, it's priceless!!! Regards P...

Re: Non-starting 102

Hi,
old rebuilds need oil to seal the bushes and start the suck, blow, bang thing. Put some oil down the sparkplug hole, then into the crank case (via the carb hole) Wang it over a bit with the HT lead off, then fuel on, HT lead on and it should fire up.

Re: Gearbox oil filling

Hi, then there should be no connection between the gear oil and the exhaust. Gear oil can pass the top bush on the drive shaft but should not be able to enter the exhaust unless the gasket between the top and bottom castings is well shot. If this is the case the water would not be pumping very well....

Re: bluddy electrics ....

Hi, depending on the make-up of some of the coils you cannot test them with a DVM. There are a few threads about the safety air gap in the electric string in some coils. This makes it impossible to check. If you have a spark that will wobble your arm then it's not electrical. Condenser is a word use...

Re: Why has Gary got a Honda?

Hi,
I can see the problem, no water from the tell tale, and no smoke from exhaust! Obviously they left it at idle on neat fuel, no wonder it exploded!

Re: Way off topic Volvo diesel

Hi there, sounds like you have a screw loose. Sorry, not you, the engine. Not sure how good you are with a DVM or an AVO but it sounds to me that you may have a loose connection or an air gap in your electric string. When the rev's increase so does the vibration, hence the problem appears. I suggest...

Why has Gary got a Honda?

Hi all,
does anyone know why Gary off Eastenders has got a Honda instead of the Century he used to have? Does Walford council object to two stroke engines? Did he sell it on ebay to pay for the wedding ring?

Re: Erractic firing, info needed

Hi, first, yes that's how you adjust the points. One screw is the adjusting cam, the other fixes the position. Second, the HT lead plunger should be against a copper button on the coil. Look in the hole and you should see it. Third (and your problem I think) the long screw should fit in a dimple, fi...

Hi, if this is a rebuilt or non-used for a while engine I would think your problem is due to air leaks around the top and bottom bushes. I spent a long time with a 40 plus not running in water and kind of gave up on it when I found it was the head gasket leaking water into the chamber. After a long ...
