Bluing stainless

A bit off topic, as charlesp would say, but I melted the plastic handle to one our saucepans - which sat on the top of the lid, as a bar of plastic in a recess in the lid - by inattention, so I thought if I melted it off altogether with a blowtorch (Go System mixed butane propane, fine jet), then I ...

Re: Stainless Fasteners

I have found www.polished-stainless.com to be very good.
It's Michael Peters in Newark, Nottinghamshire - and i find his web site easy to understand!

Re: Contact breaker case S4138 for Mk II ignition

Thanks guys - that makes a lot of sense, because my 1971 spares book (with a different drawing for Mk II ignition than the one in my 1980 spares book) shows it with "if fitted" against items 14 - 17 , which supports the optional extra point, and then the 1980 book has the items listed (but...

Wow - that worked - congratulations to the web administrator
They were taken with a rather elderly Nokia N95 phone camera

Contact breaker case S4138 for Mk II ignition

Can someone post a photo of this - and specs for possible construction? It would be nice to complete the job properly. Second query is that I have 2 Mk II ignitions in my spares box - one is marked M II and the other is marked M III. They are clearly both Mk II WIPAC ignitions, although one is as ne...

Re: Forty and Century restoration

Has anyone had a go with soda blasting - some very impressive you tube videos, and it does not seem to damage anything. If so, the next question would be how do you make one/get one for DIY use for small money? I seem to remember H-A commenting on this.

Re: Cylinder honing..

i found the one in a nice plastic box from Sealey to be great - it's the Cylinder Hone Kit 4 in 1 (comes with different sizes of abrasive tongs) - see sealey.co.uk - for £sterling 44.94 including VAT Not sure about availability in Australia, but presumably there is something equivalent there.

Pinch bolt on the exhaust flange

I have 3 featherweight drive shaft casings, which I am trying to disengage from the exhaust flange - so as to get the casings rechromed. 2 still have the gear box attached - the 3rd only has the flange, minus bolt. I have tried a C200 camping gaz blowlamp, on the premise that the aluminium alloy sho...

Re: Champion D16 specs

Charles was right - there is a helix insert into the original thread, which I only recognised after looking at a u tube video of how to insert them - it has a sharp point at the lead in, unlike ordinary threads with a smooth lead in - and the whole thread has 2 diameters - the one deeper in is wider...

Re: Champion D16 specs

Thank you - I had already found out that the chaser is about 1/3rd the cost of a tap, so it's on order!
Why did the manufacturer need helicoils - doesn't quite sound right?!

Re: Champion D16 specs

Thank you for that - two more bits of the jigsaw. I did not begin to think that a spark plug "made in the usa" for an engine designed round whitworth would have anything metric on it - and did not realise that zeus does not cover everything.... I am now on the hunt for an 18 mm chaser, and...

Champion D16 specs

Can someone enlighten me about what sort of thread size this is? All I wanted was a thread chaser that would clean the whole female thread!! It seems to be 22 mm across flats, but with an 11/16 of an inch diameter shank (0.6875) - but my thread gauge will not fit - it seems to be between 18G and 16G...
