Re: Seagull 5R

Charles where exactly is the number, ie where's the adaptor plate? I have just aquired an engine and can't find a number in the usual place, my thoughts are it might have been renovated as there's signs of red sealant. But I don't know what 5Rs look like so, if you let me know please, I'll check thi...

Re: Is this a fuel filter

Hi Hugo No, this is not it. I'll post a picture tomorrow. It doesn't have a number, that's for sure, I've had it upside down even, and not a thing. It has a Mk1 flywheel with the wire clip to hold the ht lead cover thingy. Does the type of grip on the handle tell us anything about age. I see there's...

Re: Is this a fuel filter

Thanks for that. You actually answered a question I didn't want to ask (fear of being stupid), "could I maybe restore it". I'll get a pic in due course.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Is this a fuel filter

Hi Guys As I'm new to the Forum and my knowledge of the workings of my engine is nil, I decided to buy and old seized engine so that I can dismantle it and try to understand what you guys are talking about. I'll hopefully get some decent spares into the bargain. First thing, I don't see an id number...

Re: Decals again!

You guys are doing a great job trying to clock these rats. I recently bought a CD manual off ebay, fortunately I know my way around a computer to get the contents of the CD. As a newcomer I'd like to think I can get some old engines and get them restored, but I want the finished product to have genu...

Re: shaft length

Believe it or not, this did start off as a genuine question before some folk started pussying about.

Re: shaft length

Yeah Vic, but the thing is, it's Papa's toy, the girls will only be passengers. I wouldn't let the kids out alone with a Seagull, especially my own, it's too precious to me. Seriously though, your right. A more modern engine would be on the shopping list if they wanted to take it up. Unfortunately i...

Re: shaft length

Funny thing, when I came off the site last night I was thinking exactly this Billyboy. My thoughts are now on manufacturing a clip with wing nuts so that I can change the height to suit the weight quite easily. To be honest I reckon it'll be a regular weight as I usually do these things myself, but ...

Re: shaft length

Thanks guys, I'm getting the picture now. I get Todd's suggestion using an old seized engine to cut up, but no cutting will be done. Thanks for the picture Vic. I'm sure I will get an adjustment clamp from John. Thanks everyone for the help.http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/forum/posting.php?mode...

Re: shaft length

Thanks, I am right in what I was thinking it is the standard shaft, there's no L in the serial number and it certainly isn't 22". I did use the engine on a dinghy a few years ago but it had a good size transom, but as I said, I fancy a new inflatable and the transom is a lot shorter. I will spe...

shaft length

Can anyone tell me the difference in size between, short, standard and long shafts? I have a Forty Plus engine which I hope to use on an inflatable dinghy I'm planning on buying, my main concern is the exhaust being too deep in the water. I think it is probably a standard size shaft. Can I move the ...

Re: Serial Number Identifier

Hi Folks

Thanks for a great piece of informative technology.
It gave me all the data within seconds, now I can get spares etc knowing exactly what engine I have.

Red faced newcomer

Hi I'm Gerard, I have an FP model, (Feb 70) which I bought about 5 years ago. I had it out once and it run lovely, though it took a few pulls to start. I haven't had it out for about 4 years now but I hope to change that this year. First thing I did the other day was go on ebay and order a cd repair...
