do you notice that there is always a wet oily residue inside the magneto baseplate where the coil and points are? if so this is another indication that the bushings are starting to wear. might be time to dig out that spare.

i actually contacted mcmaster carr without success but eventually found a great product in my own back yard so to speak! imported from somewhere i think,it is 80 mesh 39 gauge stainless steel. really tough stuff. just roll it round a pencil or whatever and it stays intact without any fastening.cut t...

well actually i do have an FVP crank and case that produces a nice spark when the screw is at 6 o'clock but i presumed using the crank from that would give me the same problem. never thought that it might be a century crank in the featherweight! excellent suggestion.... thanks

and also any increase in weight wont effect the speed at all if you use the plus!
