Re: The Early Series Forty Models. F,Fv,FVP,LS & LM

Don't understand what is a tank with a 3/4" radius end ? Is that the radius of the corner ?

Appreciate how much work there is in that lot Jeremy - I have always been confused about the little forty models.

Yes - I have a couple, see post - General 'Transom Bracket' - Feb 15 - 2016

I had three ( as in pic ) but one went to someone who bought a forty from me. to see if it would suit him ?

Re: Handlebar grips

These are all I have - one pretty good, the other slightly worn. The brass arm is straight but damaged at the flange bracket ( metal lug type ) The ally arm has a kink. The red is paint.

edit - are these normally open ended ? I see some that seem to have an endcap ?

Re: Handlebar grips

Can someone point to a pic of a 'Dover' grip ( is that the right classic type ? ) - as I may well have some, but really do not know what they look like ?

Re: silver century block crack

The problem as I see it with these cast blocks is they drain. My Yanmar diesel is getting on 25 years old and raw water cooled - and the innards are pretty good. Always used in salt water. Thing is it stays full most of the time when idle and is full when running. There is not that much oxygen in wa...

Re: silver century block crack

Re holes - its what to fill them with afterwards ? I was thinking one hole like the water inlet is tapped into. You don't want a tight fit really - a loose thread and boss would do. You are right - there is no way to reach this on a stripped block, short of chemical type soaking. Its not as if 100 b...

Re: silver century block crack

Thanks - My main concern really is - ANY used block - however well the jacket had been cleaned - can be stuffed up here - as its quite impossible to get to - to check it or clean it ? Even if I swap it out - it could just re-happen to any used block. I don't think its going to stop the engine runnin...

silver century block crack

Just taking a look at my Silver Cent long ( c 1972 - Wipac ) I keep on the boat rail as backup - and which I rebuilt about five years back or so, right through. There is small crack about 30mm long across the middle of the exhaust tube boss - obviously leaking water slightly as some rust marks aroun...

Re: amal carb body

Standard - 16 1/4". Sold my 40 - so want to make up another - as a spare tender engine.
A long would be ok - can chop. Not fussy on material.

what do they run like without one ? They would hear you coming i think !

If you have not sorted anything out I have several - not cosmetically the best I think - but sound threads.
I'm after a 40 series exhaust if you fancy a swap ?

Re: What would you expect to pay?

Just sold a 40 plus wipac 72 I think - rebuilt but not as new, ie painted leg - but generally taken apart and inspected - cleaned block, new head gasket, new ht lead and plug etc - good running order - £90 no problem. The problem is - there are very few modern outboards about for that money - as in ...

Re: Wipac HT lead replacement

Bear in mind the screw is brass - and the slot is quite lean in depth. Make sure your small screwdriver is really sweet, flat and square - so its gets a good purchase on the srew slot. The springs are awkward to replicate - so look after them. Remove the brass ht pip - don't be tempted to extend the...

Re: where to get 140 oil ?

Try a local farm supplies outlet - machinery etc. Thats where I bought some about five years back, Castrol Agri 140 EP.
About £18 for 5 ltr. Its common on older farming equipment.
