Re: As of Today
Yes - retirement is a dream. Do not have to work for a living ! I am at last able to be the 'lord of the manor' - except I didn't get a title and have sod all to live on. However said 'manor' - which was bought by by parents for £450 is now worth £300,000 + ...so one day soon its going - and I get a...

Re: Amal Throttle Control - Tiller Clamp Screws.
Cris - yes I make my own cables - and find galvanised easier to solder - Wilko inner is still galv. I have silver soldered stainless with mixed sucess - so don't bother with it. I think some types are treated with silicone nasties ? I was referring to the early cable type - brass or bronze like ( ha...

You were lucky if the baseplate came off easily ? Its usually that which is the problem not the flywheel ?

Re: FPL won't runwithout choke
Should be ok - mix was to do with the size of the main bearings in crankcase. From year 68 they were longer - hence less oil needed to make a good seal on a plain bearing. So - as long as yours are the longer ones - 25:1 will be fine. Could be an issue with the centre tube - rather than the needle ?...

Re: ht connector spring bits
I've not gone in there yet - its close but a real busy area for parking. The spring I mentioned can be bought on their website - its not bulk only - you can buy just a few. https://www.flexosprings.com/stock-springs/compression-springs I shall get over there soon - just to show him the original and ...

Re: Seagull on 25ft narrowboat
Well - they did say ' 1 horse power' - for previously horse drawn boat !
It does not surprise me - I have a 22 sailing boat - and a silver century as a spare engine pushed it at 4 kts + at half throttle. Thats fairly flat tidal open water.

Re: ht connector spring bits
Yes - as a unit inc the black plactic part - probably a basic used spare. If ht leads complete are available for seagull as a new part ? - where are the magneto end units coming from ? The springs are not just just cylindrical. They are tighter one end ( screw head ) and have a tight double turn to ...

ht connector spring bits
Any source for the brass HT spring bosses ? Anyone made up the springs ? If they are brass - they seem to be 'springier' than normal brass wire ? Is that just temper - or is there a type of brass thats 'spring' quality ? Although I have screws that will fit with a slight head filing - do we know the...

Re: Villiers Coils
I see the Green Spark Plug Co have M1361 coils @ 22.50 inc vat - so if buying plugs or ht lead etc - I may well add one to the basket.
Be nice to breathe some life into the very large pile of villiers ignitions I have - rather than stick on a wipac since its the only working coils I have !

Re: Wanted: Cylinder block for 90 series
There is a thread for bolt sizes and torques - http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6040 18 ft lbs is quoted there - which if you don't have a torque wrench - is not a lot ! As to goo - for sealing - I have always used Wellseal and have had no issues with it. Just a ni...

Re: A Pair of Forties
Those cap cheeseheads tend to be stuck in the upper unthreaded part of the top cap ( white oxidation between steel shank and hole ) Once down to the thread in the base they tend to move ok with heat. I suppose the upper shank allows water ingress between shank and hole - less so the threaded part. D...
