Re: Seagulls on the Murray
The 'bitza' did me proud, traveled several hours up and down the Murray River. Did not miss a beat, started first pull every time. Land speed recorded was 5kph upriver and 10kph with the flow. The tiller extension was donated from 'croweater' after he used it on 'Seagulls on the Murray'. [attachment...

Seagulls on the Murray
I'll finally have the opportunity to see if my Seagulls will have enough power to go UPSTREAM on the Murray River ! Next weekend the Victorian Woodenboat Association will have their "Weekend Away" at Moama on the Murray. I'll have my Bitza and ever reliable 40+ along . The Bitza is a 1955 ...

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
I was looking at one of my broken alloy struts and noticed that there is a 25 x 6 half threaded rod with a convenient slot in the end. I assume that the casting was drilled and tapped for the pieces to be fitted. I guess it makes sense as that point takes the most stress and a brass rod would be str...

Re: Who knew...?
"...The only time I've heard of that happening is on an SD water pump housing, with the pressure relief hole blocked up & a missing cotton reel bush."
Yes, thats what happened, Charles.
I put a motor together from donated parts not noticing this 'repair' to the pump housing.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Interesting that my brass strut does not have the centre bar, and that its an identical casting the the alloy V-strut.
Of course you could also bend up a 6mm round bar as an emergency V-strut.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Why not cast an aluminium alloy one, I'd like one 'cause I snapped one of mine. I looked at my motors and have a brass one and an alloy one, with an almost complete mounting clamp.
All of my brackets do not have the central web (maybe thats why it broke.)
Looks like a simple casting job.

On the other hand, look at the quality of the casting of the Indian, seen in a maritime museum in Auckland, New Zealand.

Re: Australian VERITY Outboard
Kind of similar to the 5HP Ecylpse that I used to own, although it was air cooled and from an earlier era, and with much better casting.
