Re: Another boat for the Murray River

Hi Erle, Don’t understand why you would want to change either design the Russell R is good the way it is if you want a Poole Canoe (Trunnell) build one the boats look similar in breadth and length but I think the Poole canoe has more rocker than the Russell R (can’t find any offset tables for the Po...

Re: Arround Bruny Classic

Good Luck will be watching the weather down there, have you sorted out a fuel system?
Use a egg timer or something similar to remind you to top the tank up nothing worse than trying to restart in rough water.

Re: Nuts! I Purchased a Truck!

The photo is a mates truck sign writing is original he’s the second owner cruising speed is about the same as my Morris 8 and BSA 600 outfit never had a problem with modern traffic they usually pass with a wave. The BSA has been all over SA toured Tassie (we rode it onto the boat) and the East Coast...

Re: Nuts! I Purchased a Truck!

Greengrass I don’t think so he drove a LC5 I think yours looks like a LC3 the headlights look a little lower than I remember are they in the original position, the LC3 didn’t have a hole in the bumper just a tag the same as fitted it has the wrong bumper looks ok. Re: A Boat for the the mighty Plus or the Titanic part Two

THCL500J8 Nice find and story can’t see why you couldn’t put a new stern on the shortened hull, this is what I would do. Brace the shell before you grab the saw. Set Transom/Stern at an angle to suit the Seagull mainly for looks. Glue 2 sheets of ply to make the Transom 10plys better than 5ply for s...

Re: Gearbox Oils

Adrian – Bruny Island great idea I have thought about doing something similar but not as far I have different idea about the type of boat I would use. Gearbox oil what a pain it was but if we wanted an easy run we would’ve bought new four strokes, what I have done thanks to suggestions that some of ...

Re: Seagulls on The Murray

Thanks Charles UK I have no idea on the engine hours we usually were mobile by 9am started looking for a campsite from 4pm some days they only stoped so I could check the gearbox oil. Our main motor did most of the run only getting a rest when we were testing other motors or she had cried enough. I ...

Re: Seagulls on The Murray

Hard to believe it’s been over one year since we started our long journey down the Murray River I have only used the boat a few times since. I have had some oil blended that should solve my gearbox problems but I still haven’t had time to give it a good run I would like to do a 100km trial. Mark Wal...

Re: new here with questions

Great to see a Seagull getting a decent run their amazing little motors very reliable once sorted, we used Century 100’s
on our long (2,000km) run only had minor issues they are noisy a long tiller helped.

Re: Marston- To Break or not To Break

Hi guys just thought I would put my 2 cents worth in JERSEYMAN you bought a dead motor on ebay if the end result is a couple of running motors you will still have enough parts left over to make a dead motor for display or dust collecting. JERSEYMAN I hope you keep posting if blokes like you weren’t ...

Re: long range tanks or refuelling pump?

The system pictured above is what we used on our 2,000 km Murray trip we were able to run our motors up to 10 hours without stopping which we did many times. If you plan to run a motor for more than 1 hour regularly I would use this system we took our boat out the other weekend without the remote ta...

Re: British Seagull Outboards (Photographs)

After repairing Lazy Gull we gave her a run and the old Century 100 got a chance to stretch her legs I gave the motor a service first, all ok except the gearbox bushes are shot and the fin is bent. http://i1172.photobucket.com/albums/r563/Bezzajohn/IMG_3186_zps56ce37f4.jpg Happens every time we stop...

Re: Let the journey begin!

Thought I would show you one of my ole girls it’s a 1948 BSA M21 600 with a Tilbrook Sidecar she’s looking a little tired and due for another cosmetic restoration if I ever stop playing with Seagulls. Originally paid $20.00 dollars for her but that was 40 years ago will cruise at 40-45mph all-day we...

Re: Spark plug Cap in OZ Or a sutable waterproof one.

Just a warning about the rubber spark plug caps, I have been using those caps for over 40 years and have never had a problem with them the one fitted to my old sidevalve BSA wood have to be 30 years old. I bought a few of them from a local motorcycle shop for our trip down the Murray River. Within a...

Re: crankcase sealing

I will stick with a TCW3 two stroke oil at 10-1.
I would sooner have a motor that starts easily with little smoke if the bearings are crook I will change them.
