Re: Before I throw it off the pier.
I had thought about the HT lead but as it is brand new,I figured it would be OK,though I did test for continuity. My only fear is the screw in end may not be making good contact, checked it and seems good. And the coil is a Wipac II. This 'Gull ain't for the purist, seems to be a mishmash or a bitsa but...

Re: Before I throw it off the pier.
Thank you for the replies and advice. So here's what I did today. Dismantled everything.Put all metal bits in a bowl of cellulose thinners as I only have the spray carb cleaner. Didn't rub crankcase on glass as there are two wee guides sitting proud in the bolt holes, but it is very clean and smooth ...

Before I throw it off the pier.
Hi folks, I have this SJP 40 plus for a year and a half and for the life of me I can't get it to run.She wants to start but splutters and dies. Good compression, good spark, getting fuel.Plug gapped at 20th,points set at 20th,fuel fresh @ 10:1. I thought it was the top brass bearing leaking vacuum,wou...

Re: S*** design or English simplicity?
Drill the head off the screw.Cobalt bit the diameter of the screw straight down the middle,as it reaches the bottom of the head,it will spin off and when parted there is enough stem left to work with to get the remainder out.

Re: Merc 60 For Side Rack
Nice decals, the red ones are '70-'71.Blue '72,depending if the blue faceplate with "Keikhaefer". If Mercury Marine, and from what I can see it is, '73 on.Worth a few bob as NOS on flea bay, number says it '63 but I think it could be older as I can't find a 6HP with a number close to that.Nic...

Re: No spark
Set piston as down as far possible, put dome nut on,get help to lift engine by flywheel,if no help available,I lift engine with two fingers in the opening, strike dome nut sharply with rubber mallet,if doing it yourself, refrain from striking your second finger as it is rather painful.DO NOT use a bear...

Re: Villiers carb threads worn
Thank you for the replies and advice. No advocates for chemical metal,so I'll rule that out. The new carb is the way to go and that's what I'll do,eventually.I was looking for something to get me on the water, today or tomorrow, with her to see how she flies but ran into this leak.Putting her on the b...
