Re: FVs
Spiro, The original factory sealant was a black Bostik spec. I think the number was 638. This number has just popped up from the depths of my brain, so is probably wrong! But, whatever the number was, it is no longer available. CharlesP researched this issue some time ago. I have been using 'Red Hi-...

Re: FVs
Your newly acquired FV12206 looks good, Allan. Yes, the FVs are great and very useable outboards. Thanks for the photos. I especially like the small Champion plug cap. Could it have been an original fitment? I wonder when the Champion was superceded by the Seagull cap. I had previously thought it wa...

Re: FVs
Allan,
You seem to indicate that you have acquired another Early Series Forty. Well done! Any details?

Re: FVs
Charles, 1.The Theaded Pump Housing (TPH) was superceded by the Clamp Bolt Pump Housing (CBPH) at about serial number 24400. 2. The method of fixing the drive shaft tube to the crankcase was the same for all of the Early Forty Models. it consisted of the tube located into the crankcase split bore an...

FVP10422 and FVP6493
FVP10422. FVP10422 is partially stripped. All the correct parts are present, except the tiller grip. I am keen to sell it for a nominal amount to someone who wants to restore it and put it together and then hopefully to use it. I think that there are enough FV/FVP parts available to the specificatio...

Re: FVs
Adrian, Thank you for your offer, but I will be keeping my two Fs. I did note that the engine support lug was not to the original engine support lug spec, as it was the new engine support lug which was introduced at serial number 10000. I will be offering FVP10422 for sale on here. I am keen to pass...

Re: FVs
Charles, Thanks for your comments about drive shaft tube and chrome plating. Yes, I have paid in the past £40 to £60 for rechroming the tube. Maybe thats the best thing to do, rather than seek an alternative solution using non FV bits. i suspect that the cost could be kept down a bit if a batch of s...

Re: FVs
Thanks Charles, but I will see whether Adrian has the engine support lug avaiable , which is the part that I am specifically interested in. I do have a query that you might be able to answer:- When restoring an FV or FVP, I am very keen to install a good looking, non rusty drive shaft tube, which me...

Re: FVs
Adrian, Good to hear from you. In respect of sailing, you at least managed one day on board. All I managed was to spend a weekend in early March, scraping the hull and slapping some anti fouling on. Little do I know what was to come..... Glad FV8222 is safe and sound. Do you know who might want to r...

Re: FVs
There is always great demand on out time and inevitable Seagulls are not at the top of the list. Allan - yes, I am well, thank you. Hope you are too. Clearing out a parent's house or garage is very time consuming and can be a sad task. Hope all goes well with it. My offspring tell me that they will ...

FVs
I thought it would be a good idea to start a new topic about as far removed as 170 con rods, in order to show the wide appeal and interest that exists in the Seagull world. 170 con rods is probably a more useful and interesting topic than my chosen one, which is FVs - but here goes:- 1. Are FVs and ...

Seagulls, Life and everything else.
The forum seems quite quiet at the moment - perhaps it is just the silly summer season. So, here are some silly thoughts. What will the future bring to the Seagull world. In say, 20 or 30 years time, when most of us retirees have other priorities ( if any at all!)? I know that we are not all retired...

Re: Who knew...?
So, Charles, how far above a typical water level on an FVP?
Isn't an FV drive shaft tube just over 16." long?

Hi Pete,
Yes, the human aspect is often the weak link. My favourite one is to forget to open the petrol tap after a short stop.
What is the model and serial number of your Seagull?

Re: Who knew...?
Grumpy, it is great to chat about Seagulls - this is just what the forum is all about. There is no problem with your terminology, spelling, or anything else. I agree with you that a mini fountain out of the top joint, did point to something amiss.Anyway, you seemed to have resolved the problem and y...
