Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

I think I have seen a picture of the toothpick boat. Wasn't it red? I'd be really interested to see a genuine Bermuda flea drawing. I understand that they are built for quite a different purpose to what we're doing in NZ, but I like the boats so there's some interest there for me.

Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

I think it's cool that these guys put so much effort into the look of their boats. Ours is just going to be matt black with gold sign writing. Proper launching and testing for Paris 2 next weekend. All going well she'll be fast and we can finally take Paris 1 down to her new captain down in Tauranga.

Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

Check out that paint job! Awesome!

Got a set of plans or profiles for us? Without seeing an underwater shape, to me they look pretty similar, we just dropped 50mm off the freeboard and put a different bow shape on. Otherwise, much of a much-ness. Just we've used different material.

Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

Thanks for the Very kind offer, anything you could give me would be a great help. Just send me a PM with what you need from me. I'll send you a set of files tomorrow. She has had a bit of a tweak from the file, we made the transom 30mm narrower (860mm) and the file does not show how we cut the bow ...

Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

She goes pretty well with the silver century on the back, and planes easily with one on board, but two up and the dynamic changes a lot. We’ll still have our work cut out to match the good 20’ guys, and reliability is still an unknown, we just know that we we’re faster than with the 1st Paris. Halvi...

Re: Beginers Flea? Starter Bermudan?

First test for our new 20ft 'NZ Flea' today. Very happy so far. A tiller arm extension wouldn't go a-miss. but with all the weight down aft, she sits on the last 1.5m and rips along nicely. I have a SolidWorks model of the full hull and also a AutoCAD file of the frames if you would like something s...

Re: A relic of years gone by?

Our first real high speed run in the TNZ boat today. We were using a Seagull Sport as the 5R isn't quite done yet. Lots of fun!

Here's the onboard video:

Re: A relic of years gone by?

Took her out for a spin today. Just with a yamaha 2hp, but we were doing 12 knots!

The guy were right, if you weight more than about 75kg you won't fit in the cockpit! Very tight! A lot of fun to drive though. Can't wait to get a 5R back on her!

Re: A relic of years gone by?

I think we have a driver organised, Andrew O'neil, a local power boat racer who works at the same composites company I do. He's about 70kg, pretty slim with good knowledge of how to keep motors going etc. But you're right Charles, this boat doesn't like too much in the way of a sea state. Apparently...

A relic of years gone by?

We took delivery of the old Team New Zealand boat earlier today. She's quite old now. 28ft long and built in 1999 for the Waikato race, She hasn't been in the water for 10 years, the last time she was wet was 2004 when she gained a world record as the most fuel efficient water craft ever built, used...

Re: How fast is fast ?

We're currently maxing out at 16.5 kmh on Paris. That's with a standard silver century motor and the 5 blade bedroom fan.

Seagull Sport wanted

Chaps,

I'm on the look out for a Seagull Sport engine if anyone can help. I'm based in NZ, and they're proving tricky to get hold of!

Come on Charles...... ;-)

Re: Film of this years Waikato.

Here's a short youtube film of Easters Waikato expedition, it's a sample from the people doing the documentary, nice camera work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9lolVHHFgs&feature=youtu.be Oh dear..... That clip was never supposed to go public! It's low quality raw footage. Nina only put it to...
