Future project I'm afraid as I'm working overseas for the foreseeable future. I will make some sort of tool to allow it to come off, and then make a new top plate.

So if I understand correctly if you remove the four screws and turn the flywheel nut counter clockwise the top plate will come off to allow you access to the points. But if you don’t remove the screws the entire flywheel will pop off. That’s good to know and ...

I wrecked a coolie hat flywheel using the lift & tap method, a real tight one on a Marston, I had a friend ... as Jon so rightly says early Wipac (big window) flywheels often break during hammer removal as do tight (small window) ones, & many CDI ones show signs of cracking around ...

... a little valve grinding paste over the crank taper. Then i place the flywheel onto the crank. The weight of the flywheel alone is enough here ... cranks has been wrecked from doing this, and if anything makes flywheel removal an absolute breeze the next time. If anybody has any spares, I'm looking for a flywheel cover, to either buy, or borrow so I can measure it to make a new one. My has cracked from overtightening the flywheel removal nut. Not me I hasten to add :shock:
